New innovative e-car-sharing project
As part of the ‘Naturns mobil’ pilot project, two car-sharing vehicles will now be available to the public in the municipality of Naturns. In collaboration with Raiffeisenkasse Untervinschgau, the municipality is facilitating the use of two modern electric cars, which can be hired on very favourable terms.
The aim is to offer residents a new mobility option, leading to a long-term reduction in the number of second or third cars.
The municipality of Naturno set out on the path to becoming a ‘Climate Municipality’ back in 2017. In the field of mobility, Naturns has already implemented a wide range of projects; now, the focus is on this new sharing scheme to promote shared, sustainable mobility.
The municipality has leased a car-sharing vehicle which can be used cost-effectively for internal purposes but, above all, as a car for residents.
The second community car is being provided by Raiffeisenkasse Untervinschgau in collaboration with the municipality. Whilst this vehicle is used partly for operational purposes, it is available for all residents to drive from Friday lunchtime until Sunday evening.
Both vehicles have their own charging points and are parked centrally in the village in the town hall parking lot.
Less traffic and fewer cars
The aim is to encourage as many residents as possible to adopt shared mobility, in order to save costs and benefit the environment by reducing emissions and the number of private vehicles. To ensure the vehicles are utilised to full capacity, affordable rates will need to be in place, as the approximately 50 local authority staff will also use the electric vehicles for their work-related journeys. Last but not least, the mobility service is also available to businesses and organisations, which can make use of it as and when required.
Service also available to tourists
To make travelling to the area by public transport even more appealing, attractive local mobility solutions must also be created. This car-sharing service is one such solution. With AlpsGo, tourists can register at short notice, book a car and set off straight away. This offers maximum freedom of movement.
Mayor Zeno Christanell on the new mobility service: “We are delighted to be able to launch this project in collaboration with Raiffeisenkasse Untervinschgau. It brings a range of benefits for our residents, as the council has made every effort to ensure the service is affordable for everyone. An attractive car-sharing scheme also makes it easier to do without a second or third car, which would significantly reduce the financial burden on many families.”
“Electric car-sharing is a perfect fit for Naturno and is another building block in achieving our ambitious climate targets,” commented Provincial Councillor Alfreider. “I also see potential for it to be used by visitors arriving by public transport. Naturno could thus become a model municipality for sustainable mobility.”
Car-sharing Director Gebhard Platter also had words of praise for the project partner: “In Naturno, they’re embracing e-mobility for everyone! With this low-threshold service, the municipality is trying to engage with people and show that sustainable mobility doesn’t have to be overpriced.”
Wolfram Gapp, Chairman of Raiffeisenkasse Untervinschgau, also describes the excellent cooperation between all partners as highly exemplary: “It’s no coincidence that our motto is ‘stronger together’ – our customers benefit from this too".
