Electric car-sharing as part of Verano's mobility strategy

The municipality on the Tschögglberg is set to place greater emphasis on multimodal transport in future. The introduction of an e-car-sharing vehicle at the valley station of the Verano cable car will specifically complement and strengthen the existing public transport services.
The car is available for official journeys by municipal staff, but can also be used by the general public.

On Friday 16 May, the all-electric vehicle was officially handed over to the municipality by the South Tyrolean e-car-sharing provider AlpsGo. Thanks to the strategically chosen location at the municipality’s own cable car station, the residents of Vöran can now benefit from an innovative mobility solution that combines the advantages of public transport with the flexibility of private transport. The service is aimed at the entire population, as well as clubs, businesses and visitors who wish to make use of a flexible and straightforward mobility solution.

The e-car-sharing offer is based on a simple idea: you only pay for the time booked and per kilometre travelled, regardless of whether the journey is for personal or business purposes. With a subscription, the cost is just €3 per hour and €0.28 per kilometre. The cost for a full day is €24.50. For occasional users, there is also a ‘Flex’ tariff without a subscription, which comes with a slightly higher hourly rate. The vehicle can be booked round the clock (24/7), and all operating costs are included – from charging to insurance, maintenance and repairs. The one-off registration fee of €19 is credited in part or in full as travel credit to holders of the Altoadige Pass and to Alperia customers.

Mayor Daniela Mittelberger emphasised during the vehicle’s launch:
“By combining car-sharing with public transport – namely the cable car and the bus – intermodal mobility becomes even easier and more cost-effective for our residents. I hope that many residents of Vöran will make use of this service. Perhaps this will also mean that, in future, one or two households will be able to do without a second or third car.”

Thanks to provincial funding for e-car-sharing, more and more local authorities are adopting this model: using a modern, electric service vehicle that is also available to the general public at an affordable price. With the vehicle in Vöran, AlpsGo’s fleet now comprises 63 vehicles across 22 municipalities in South Tyrol. Registered users can conveniently book the car-sharing vehicles via the AlpsGo app – not only in South Tyrol, but also in neighbouring countries, with access to over 2,500 additional vehicles.

Gebhard Platter, Director of AlpsGo, explained at the opening: “Given the current high fuel prices, we are seeing even greater interest in our mobility service. We are therefore all the more delighted to be able to contribute to improving mobility in Vöran. The new location is an ideal addition to South Tyrol’s e-car-sharing network.”
